“Hahaha! Okay, okay! Keanu, listen to this one!” Leilani was reading from her most recent joke book that she had gotten for her birthday, much to her sibling’s dismay. This time, the book held over 150 jokes and was a “sure fire way to help you on your path to become the best comedian you could be”. Although Keanu was sure she had finished that book by now, he stayed put, waxing his surfboard on the cool wooden floor of their beach home. Leilani had to finish that book of hers sooner or later, and he was willing to take one for the team. The eldest, and only brother gave a slight nod for his sister to continue.
“Mkay, so, why couldn’t the sesame seed – schmhmhmhm~ … leave the gambling casino?” The curly haired teen couldn’t even get through the question without a muffled giggle. And as she stifled one, an unexpected chuckle arose out of his own mouth.
“I dunno, Leilani. Why?”
“Because! He was on a roll! Ahhhhihihihihihi~!” And there came the ever so high pitched giggle that bubbly Leilani was quite known for. She laughed, and laughed, and laughed for a moment, before a snort made its way into her fit of giggles. She paused, joke book still in hand as her green eyes fell onto Keanu. The older brother’s toned arms had stopped working on his board as he looked up at Leilani that same moment. It was silent for a while, before the two siblings began another roar of laughter.
The tears streamed down her face as she made several more snorts. “Ohmigosh! Hihihi, I didn’t mean to – !” Snort? Yes, she did not mean to, but that didn’t change the fact that it happened once more before the laughter finally subsided. Leilani wiped the tears that had run down her face, giving a deep sigh to recompose herself. She was just about to ask Keanu if he wanted to hear another joke, but the thumping sound coming from the stairs made it very clear that someone was on their way down, and fast.
“I have a date with Ryan in 20 minutes, and you two with your loud laughter ruined my make up!” It was Nani, Leilani’s second eldest sibling, and she was pointing at her eye, more specifically her eyeliner that was probably intended to be a wing tip, but instead made it look like her eye was connected to her eyebrow.
“Schmmff….”
Nani grimaced. “What?”
“Mmmhmhmhmhmh…”
“Leilani, it’s not funny!”
“You look so stupid!” Keanu managed to choke out before he and Leilani were in another fit of laughter. Nani seethed, her fists balling up beside her as her siblings went on and on and on with their laughter – making her the butt of the joke! She was too busy being angry to notice little sister Leilani snapped a great photo of Nani with her pink little digital camera.
“Ugh, I’ll deal with you two numbskulls later!” And with that, Nani retreated upstairs to fix her make up blunder. Just then, Leia had returned home from the store, with the groceries she’d promised their mother she’d bring home.
“Geeze, you can hear Nani from all the way down the road. What happened?”
“This~!” Leilani grinned slyly, flashing her camera to her second oldest sister. Leia leaned closer before she gave a snort of her own as her cheeks turned a light rosy pink before she began to snicker.
“Leia, shhh! She’s gonna come back and start screaming again!” Leilani whispered, throwing in a few giggles herself. Keanu silenced the two sisters, as Nani fled the house, in a rush to meet her date. When the door slammed, it was their cue to pick up the camera and resume their laughter. Yes, Nani would have to settle this when she got home.
