The Nelson Residence

The morning had begun with a bang as Lena rolled right off the edge of the bed, landing on her bedroom floor in a tangled mess of blankets. Freeing herself from their clutches she laid sprawled out on the carpet staring up at the ceiling, her messy bedhead full of radiant red curls spilling over her face. Taking a few moments to gather enough energy into her sleepy body she slowly got to her feet heading down stairs in her night attire, which happened to be a simple white t-shirt not seeing the need for any sort of pajama bottoms. Knowing that her parents were already long gone starting work before the sun rises; she didn’t bother with dressing properly for breakfast seeing as there would be no one joining her.

It was by sheer luck that Lena had passed the admittance exam for Valevay High, and although she would be attending she was stuck commuting back and forth from home. Unable to afford the boarding fee and not quite smart or talented enough to earn any type of scholarship, Lena was left with picking up a part-time job at the nearby bathhouses in order to buy a car that was reliable enough to make it back and forth to school….every day. Finishing off her bowl of cheerios Lena bounced up the stairs shuffling from room to room as she prepared for that start of school. It was bound to be an interesting year…

----Later that Night-----

Taking twice the amount of time to make it home, due to the fact the rain was obstructing most of her visibility, Lena finally made it home in one piece. To her surprise her father had been waiting for her in the front room still in his uniform, his shirt adorned with his police badge and his gun holstered at his hip. Looking relieved that his daughter had made it home alive and for the most part dry, he slumped back into a nearby arm chair. “Where have you been? Your mother was worried sick with you driving out in this weather.” Although he wanted to sound stern his relieved tone sounded more exhausted than anything else. His teenage daughter would be the death of him…

“I was catching up with an old friend. I hadn’t realized it had gotten so late. But don’t worry dad,[i]he[i] was a gentleman. Even walked me from his dorm to my car with an umbrella, so I wouldn’t get wet.” Lena chuckled seeing the expression on her dad’s face change at the mention of this friend being male, let alone the fact she had been in his dorm. Quickly calling out goodnight she retreated up to her room, before he could say anything about it.

~Start of Phone Call with Chepe && Tesanee~

Lena’s room looked like a tornado had hit it. Papers scattered across the floor, boxes sitting half empty most of their contents dumped out on her bed, and Lena smack dab in the middle of it all sitting crisscrossed on the floor digging through a bin of old pictures. She was obviously determined to find something, but the sound of her phone ringing had pulled her attention away from the search. Carefully bouncing over the debris littering her floor she retrieved her phone answering it with a friendly hello.


She was actually surprised to her Chepe on the other line. She hadn’t expected for him to call just to make sure she made it home alright. Holding the phone to her cheek with her shoulder she headed back to her spot on the floor. “Oh, hey Chepe. Yeah I made it home, better late than never.” Sitting down she adjusted the phone holding it with her hand again. “Sure I’d love to talk to Tesanee. I was actually waiting for her phone call.”

Lena laughed into the phone, finding the thought of Chepe riding a motorcycle in that downpour comical. He wouldn’t have gotten very far before being swept away by this crazy island weather, but the thought was appreciated. “You have a motorcycle? Well you’ll have to take me for a ride sometime…preferably not in the rain.” Lena said, pulling out a picture of two small children, a bushy haired red head and a tiny black haired boy. The 6 year old versions of herself and Chepe playing at the daycare. Her eyes widened with excitement. Feeling victorious that she had found what she had been looking for she responded into the phone. “Yes! I found it! Oh, I mean, Umm….So…where is Tesanee?”

As Tesanee’s voice echoed through the phone, Lena smiled leaning back slightly against the foot of her bed. She still couldn’t wrap her mind around how old she was now. She could clearly remember the adorable little baby Tes rolling around on the floor while Chepe and Lena doted over her, but Tesanee was far too young to remember that. “Hey Tesanee! You’re staying over at your brother’s tonight huh? Well at least I know you’ll be safe.” Setting the picture in her laps she laid her head back onto the bed, her red curls spilling over the edge. “So, shall we plan something unforgettable for your brother? He is going to be what…30 now?” Lena joked laughing into the phone a little. True Chepe acted more mature then most boys his age on the island, and defiantly had a lot more manners. It was one of his many endearing features.

Hmm…I could have some fun with a little truth or dare, but Tes is a bit young for some of the stuff I had in mind.

“ Well Tes your brother doesn’t seem like he wanted a lot of attention brought to the fact that it was his birthday, or else I’m sure he would have mentioned it sooner. I don’t want to upset him. What if we did something just the three of us? Do you know if there was anything in particular your brother missed about the island?” Lena asked rubbing the side of her face on her shoulder, her annoying curls tickling at her cheeks. Flipping her hair back she pulled herself onto her bed not worrying about the mess currently scattered over her blankets.

Listening as Tesanee spoke Lena laid back onto her bed, a pained expression appearing suddenly on her face as something dug painfully into her hip. With her free hand Lena reach down and yanked the car keys that were stabbing her, out from under her and tossed them to the floor.Barely catching the last part of Tesanee’s comment she replied rubbing at her side, “That sounds like a good plan. How about you meet us after school, and we can go from there?”

"That my dear is a surprise for the two of you! So, let me take care of where we are going and you just make sure Chepe doesn't think anything suspicious is up. Okay?" Lena yawned silently curling up. Thanks to Tesanee's little comment about Chepe loving to swim, gave her the perfect idea. Hopefully the weather would agree with them tomorrow. "Well Tes I think you need to get some sleep for our big day tomorrow." Rolling over Lena was feeling a bit tired as well, she might just leave her mess of a room to be cleaned up in the morning.

Wishing Tesanee a goodnight Lena hung up her phone setting it on the side of her bed. Laying there for a few moments she stared up at the ceiling thinking over her plans for tomorrow. Somewhere between wondering what color tutu Mr. Bradley would be sporting and hoping that weather guy would be on her side tomorrow,Lena ended up falling asleep. Curled up, still fully dressed, her room an absolute mess, and her alarm clock unfortunately not set. She would be in for a long morning...

~End of Phone Call~

The sound of the dog across the street barking at wildly at an elderly couple out for their morning walk roused Lena out of her deep sleep. Rolling onto her side the shining red numbers on her bedside clock indicated that she was indeed late to homeroom. Damn it…I forgot to set the alarm last night! Jumping out of bed Lena was showered, dressed, and out the door –skipping breakfast- within a record breaking 20 minutes. Running a brush through her tangled hair, at every stop light Lena silently cursed herself for sleeping in. Hopefully she didn’t miss too much in Mr. Bradley’s class. She would have to pop into his class after school and properly apologize with her famous pout that normally gets her out of trouble.
