Though it was only for a moment, to Celi, it felt like they had been standing there, holding each other, for a lifetime. Her pain, her sorrow, the nightmares of her past, all seemed to simply drift away as John held her securely in his strong arms, showing her ~without the need for words~ how he'd keep her safe from harm. His very presence healing her beaten and broken heart and soul better than any medicine ever could.
If only, a small part of her dreamed, she had had his presence ~his security, his caring~ in her life sooner. "How different things might have been..." How much better, happier, her childhood might have been if she had had known John years ago. But Celi knew that no matter how much she wished John had been there in her youth ~protecting her from harm, and being the stable rock he now was in her life~ such things were better left as wonderful "what if's" to dream about. Because no matter how much better her childhood might have been, or how much happier it would have made her growing up, Celi knew she'd never trade how things had turned out for the world.
"Because I have him now and that's all that matters" She thought pleasantly, giving his chest an absentminded kiss in silent thanks for his very presence in her life now. Celi may not have had him in her life when her childhood was close to being a living hell, but he was with her now and even though she had only known him for a short time, John had already become a necessary part of her life. Something that she knew she would always be grateful for, no matter what anyone else had to say about it.
"He may be hardheaded and rude, and likes to push me around even when I'm busy working, and tease the hell out of me just so I'll get mad, but I really wouldn't want him any other way" Because even if he was a well-known troublemaker who was just as famous for tearing up the town and keeping the local police on their toes, as he was for his prowess and ruthlessness in the ring or on the streets. The designer knew she couldn't find it in her to fault him for any of it. Because, that's what made him the man she knew, and secretly cared for. The only man she could really and fully trust to have her back when things got bad.
With one final, deep calming breath, Celi lifted her head to look up at the man holding her, a shy but satisfied smile dancing on the corners of her lips. He was probably thoroughly confused by now, she figured. It wasn't everyday that he had to deal with this side of her since most of the time his teasing and playful attitude kept her in a good mood, nevermind how much she openly complained about it. But still, even though he had no clue what was wrong, or just what was going through her mind right then, he'd still held her and kept her safe, stroking her hair in his own silent reassurance that everything would be ok. And for that, she was grateful. "Hey John...Thanks...I needed that"
