Tourists rarely traveled towards this stretch of the island where less attractions were about, but the locals knew of the strips of beaches just off the east coast that lay hiding there. They were hidden treasures, a respite away from the usual crowded beaches, their sands were pristine from so few visitors, and their waves were ideal for those wishing to challenge them.
One such challenger was floating adrift in the shallower surf, sunbathing atop her board as she let the waves calmly guide her back to shore where her company awaited.
Lucia Ka'Uhane, or just Lu or Luce for short, had just moved to the island a few days ago. She and her father deciding to step away from the busy lifestyles of a celebrity photographer and budding model to follow their close friends, Celi and Mimi Shiel, as they broke away from their parents to live a happier life. The two islanders had readily followed in their footsteps, wanting nothing more than a peaceful life for themselves as well, and so far, they couldn't be happier!
Her father, Kaeo Ka'Uhane, could finally take the pictures that he wanted too. So for days or weeks at a time he'd disappear into the wilds to search for his next work of art, only taking on the role of a fashion photographer when the need called for it. While Lu herself had quit the modeling life all together, wanting nothing more than to embrace her love for the sea and surf, and indulge in them until the end of her days.
Today was one such time, she'd been at the beach since dawn, basking in the morning glow as she accompanied Celi in her morning yoga. The two laughing and joking around as they had done since they met in middle school, barely able to hold their stances, until Celi had to return home to wake her sister.
Lu had stayed, enjoying the peace and quiet of the waves as they lapped against the shore, taking her time as she lazily swam through the shallows on her board before riding the waves back. It was repetitive, and oh so calming. And before she knew it, it was already past noon.
She had agreed to meet with Celi again for lunch on the beach, the rosette saying she'd be bringing friends and their meal, something she should apparently be looking forward to as it'd be "the most delicious thing she'd ever have!". By this point, the surfer was so hungry that a piece of old rubber would look tasty, but nonetheless she made no move to hurry.
Instead she tilted her head backwards, looking to the shore to see Celi's mess of wavy locks blowing in the wind. The girl was ridiculously hard to miss as she darted around trying to lay out a blanket for them to eat on underneath the shade of an umbrella. Her assumed friends were standing alongside her, one of which Lu instantly recognized as the tall and intimidating Wilder, who had a rather obvious crush on her friend. The other however, had a mop of bright blue hair that she didn't know.
But, she supposed, she'd meet him soon enough.
