It was a fine crisp morning on Rai that day, the sun was just barely peaking over the horizon, the sea was calm and tranquil with gently rolling waves sweeping across the pearly white shores, and there was barely a soul to be found out and about at such an untimely hour within the suburban areas.
Only the early birds of the boardwalk were stirring at such an unreasonable time.
The fishermen and harbor men left early and swiftly out to sea for their respective jobs, the resort workers were bustling about to clean and polish until their hotels shined as they awaited the first wave of tourists to flock through their doors, and the coffee shops and eateries were hastily cooking away to cater to the morning masses that were bound to come.
The only one who didn't seem to be in a rush that morning was a lone teen who was sleepily making her way down the boardwalk at a leisurely pace with a surfboard in hand. Lucia Ka'Uhane had just moved to the island from France, having followed her dear friends, the Shiel sisters, there and arriving on it's lovely shores just the night before on the very last ferry of the day.
It had been a long but pleasurable boat ride thankfully, that had followed an even longer and less than enjoyable plane ride. Jetlag and a constantly crying baby taking it out of her more than anything, so it was little wonder that Lu had passed out as soon as she'd made it through the doors of her new abode.
But far too soon for her liking, she had been awoken by the sound of gentle crashing waves outside her bedroom window. The sound was familiar and welcoming to her, but like a siren's song, the call of the sea was far too enticing for the natural born sea-goer to ignore no matter how tired she was.
So board in hand, Lu had ventured out of the sleepy suburban streets near her home and opted to head closer to the main beaches of the island along the busy boardwalk.
One reason was to lightly explore her new island home, taking in the sights and sounds of the main road as she made note of interesting places she wanted to scout out for later. While the other reason was the prospect of grabbing a nice breakfast and coffee after her morning swim, the delectable smells already beckoning her empty stomach the closer she got to the beach. The only question was, what would she have?
