(SEPTEMBER) Freshman Homeroom: Mr. Kirrell

Seemingly satisfied Mr. Kirrell moved on from Danielle's desk towards the front of the classroom. Seeing as there were no more victims/students his name dubbing had come to an end. Arms crossed the journalist leaned back slightly in her chair, her gaze stubbornly following him. It was pretty obvious that she was interested in this evil mastermind whom disguised himself as their homeroom teacher, but it bruised her ego a bit that he had successfully pulled on over on her. I'll have to keep my eye on him . . . I'm sure he has some deep dark secrets I can expose. Be prepared Kirrell! Be. Prepared.

Seeing as the Dani didn't have any questions -well at least not at this particular moment - she took back to jotting down some more information that she'd gathered from the interactions within the classroom. Once she was satisfied that she hadn't missed anything, Dani used the last bit of space on the corner of the page to scribble a note out to Gary. Ripping it out and crumpling it into a small ball  she launched it at her cameraman's head. It was sheer luck that the note bounced off the boy's hair landing perfectly on the desk in front of him, but the blonde would be sure to gloat about it later!


Knowing that she wouldn't have a chance to catch Drewe if she stayed after and interrogated Mr. Kirrell, Dani settled on writing her article without her teacher's input. Granted her older brother would most likely ignore her - like ever other time- she just couldn't give up! As long as Mrs. Winters was working today Dani would head over to Gary's right after, and if she wasn't? Well, she'd still head over just sneak past the cranky ole' bat!

The pale, crumpled piece of paper lightly tapped his head of messy brown hair before landing on the desk before him. The young photographer craned his neck to see who would possibly throw a piece of crumpled paper in Kirrell’s class, of all places. Honestly, they were in high school now!  Seriously, who in their right mind – !? His eyes fell on his blonde friend of many years, a smirk of triumph gracing her lips. He should have known. Gary couldn’t quite tell if she was ballsy or just stupid, and he’d been struggling with deciding on it since they first met.

Mr. Winters, or rather, Mr. Buchanan, gave her the “Seriously?” look, mixed in with the new “If-Kirrell-snapps-at-me-and-not-you-so-help-you-God-yes-you!” She’d come to understand that one in time. Gary turned around, un-crumpling the note to read Dani’s scribbles.

Change of plans?

Well, the young photojournalist should have come to expect his partner in crime to change up some kinda plan. She was just so flighty like that. Clicking his pen, Gary wrote back to the blonde girl before crumpling up the note paper once more and blindly tossed it behind him.


From there, the two could talk about where they were headed later that day. They could’ve met up at his place, since his mother was working until about 8ish. Though, the photographer much rather hang out at Dani’s house. It  was just so much more lively than his own home, that was for sure.

Those were the exact words that came spilling out of Danielle's mouth as Gary's poorly tossed note flew passed her out of arms reach. Her hands flew up instinctively to her mouth, not that it could stop her words now. She had probably effectively gained the entire room's attention with her unexpected outburst. Damn you Gary... Shooting her photographer a disapproving look Dani tried desperately to cover up her own slip.

"Umm, sooooooo....." Racking her brain quickly for a response Dani was sure that she'd forever be on Kirrell's radar. "What exactly is your aim for this class? Hmm?" For a moment Dani looked just as confused at her own question as the rest of the students, but she quickly recovered going into interview mode. Interlocking her fingers she laid her hands on the top of her desk waiting patiently for the Mr. Kirrell's response expecting the worst.

The photographer gave a small snort and then a snicker escaped his lips. Oh come on Dani, he thought. Is that really the best you can come up with on the spot? Gary should've felt bad... After all, it was partially his fault that she was in this predicament.

Going against his better judgment, the young cameraman cleared his throat slightly. "Yes Mr. Kirrell, I do concur. What are you planning for this class specifically? What should we expect to learn from you this year?" His lips curved upwards into a small but sly smile before adding "Y'know, besides the obvious..." Hopefully, Gary had talked their way out of that one but that most likely wouldn't be the case. Mr. Kirrell wasn't born yesterday (especially not with those forehead wrinkles). It wasn't likely that the pair would be pulling any BS over him anytime soon. Or at all.

Even so, Gary and Dani's questions were technically legitimate questions and should be treated as such, no matter how obscure they were. Or so Gary had thought anyway.

Mr. Kirrell allowed the stunned silence to run its course, knowing all too well the uncomfortable prickling that accompanied being the center of attention. The outburst itself had somewhat startled him, since at this point in his introduction, most students simply sat and stared at him, perhaps wondering how long it would take for him to eat them, or whatever children have in their oh so imaginative brains these days. Please, he had taste buds. Would he have made a bet with himself, even he would've lost as Ms. Adler and Mr. Buchanan proved that they could make a flub in less than one class period. What a long year this was going to be.

Deep blue eyes drifted lazily between the two, not missing the mirth in Mr. Buchanan's eyes nor the tempered dismay in Ms. Adler's. Even so, he silently commended the former of the two for sticking up for his peer, a refreshing sight. Sliding his glasses to the proper resting place on his face, John uttered a word into the silence, "Manners." What he lacked in volume, he charged with force and punctuated with silence once more before adding, "I do not appreciate such language in my class, Ms. Adler. Of all the not so charming qualities you possess, one would think you would retain your namesake's class." Shifting focus, he addressed the curly-haired photographer, "Mr. Buchanan, while your actions were admirable, I will not always allow this to pass simply due to this fact."

He expected no answer, and so focused on the class at large. "A legitimate question has been posed here. The answer to such a question is remarkably simple: whatever you want to learn. I do not know what your parents have provided, or not provided, for you to prepare you for the beginning of the rest of your life, so for one, I'm assessing your decision-making skills and your maturity level. I hope this is beneficial to you in some way, against some of your wishes." He pointedly did not look at those who might expect the attention, before clearing his throat lightly. "Any other questions before I dismiss you all?" A pointed brow emphasized the unspoken threat of 'It better be a real question or else.'
