Larissa stepped carefully as she made her way through the forest, at a leisurely pace, carefully inspecting each plant, and piece of grass. She was lugging a lot of equipment and bags with her, carrying a notepad and pen in one hand and a polaroid camera hanging around her neck by a wide black strap. Her light pink hair was in a ponytail to keep it from getting in the way of any photos she might need to take. Shilah was laying across the back of her neck wearing her harness as she always was when her owner took her out on these trips with her.
Every now and then she stopped, wrote down a plant's name and its location before photographing it, and writing the plant name and species on the white part of the photo before tucking it away in one of her many containers. Occasionally she photographed a bird or an unexpected animal as it ran past.
Looking up into some tall trees, she smoothed her tightly fitting denim shorts with the hand she held the notepad in. Slipping the small pad of paper and the pen into her pocket, she gently scraped a tiny bit of bark from one of the trees, slipping it into a small glass vial for testing later. Not only was she looking for new species of plants on the island she was also taking samples from trees to make sure they were healthy, and she carefully wrapped the labelled sample in a soft wrapping before slipping it into her bag of samples she'd already collected from that day.
The wind blew suddenly, making her loose grey tank top come untucked from her shorts as she began walking once again. Shilah chittered as the breeze hit her. "It's ok Shilah" Larissa comforted the ferret, her blue eyes looking ahead, peering through the distant trees thinking she had seen something of interest. It appeared to be a quick flash of yellow. Larissa slowed down and began to walk more carefully hoping to get a better glimpse of whatever it had been. She was thinking it was some kind of bird though she couldn't be absolutely sure.
